An olive tree can live up to 2000 years. Olive wood products are made from trees that are up to 500 years old and no longer bear olives, but have very good wood quality. As olive trees grow very slowly, their wood is particularly hard and dense, which is why they are particularly popular for use in kitchens and bathrooms.
The wood is particularly resistant to cutting.
- it does not cause scratches and thus protects non-stick coatings
- it is resistant to acids, hot fat and can withstand dishwashing detergents
The beautiful grain makes each piece unique. Care is simple: wash and dry after use. Rub with olive oil from time to time and the wood will retain its deep honey-coloured sheen.
The olive tree (deciduous tree) is cultivated in the Mediterranean region for its fruit and as an oil producer. The tree is usually small and overgrown. It is an ideal wood for turning and is used for tool and jewellery handles as well as for bowls and carvings.
Olive wood is mostly traded from Africa. These trees grow up to 24 metres high and reach a diameter of 0.5 to 8 metres.
